First Review, The Vibes!!!

THE VIBES- VOODOO JUJU 12" vinyl

This is a hard record for me to review as I feel guilty that I got it for nothing, Trash Wax records gave me this copy to review in my zine and as it never came to fruition it has left a little bit of uneasiness about it, so now is the time to sort it out as best as I can by doing a review here on my new blog, not ideal but at least it is getting a review!! Anyway enough of the background let's get on and see what this has to offer.

What we have here is The Vibes live at the Forum Enger in Germany in 1985, it's as rough as a badgers arse but it's a cracking slab of vinyl. The Vibes were a band I knew next to nothing about so not sure what it would be like. What you get is 13 tracks of super trash, garage whatever you want to call it, not a bad track on the whole album an it cracks on at a super pace and the 40 odd minutes pass really quickly and very enjoyable. My favourite track is the massive wig out on side "B" "I'm in Pittsburgh (and it's raining)", super stuff!! I will tell you another thing, the track "Hasil Adkins In My Head" is just that, I have been constantly singing it, great track! To use the old cliche, this album is "all thriller, no filler",  no duff tracks on this baby!! The cover is great and the notes on the back are a good read, I would advise anyone who likes garage/trash music to get a copy, I noticed on Trash Waxs site it wasn't available only the cd, but I have seen it on ebay, so it is still out there.

Rating:- 8/10

A NEW START

Welcome to my blog, here you will find just whatever takes my fancy, hopefully it will consist of some reviews for stuff I have bought, maybe some interviews and other random nonsense. I have a wide taste in music, punk, grindcore, all metal genres, even 50s/60s bebop jazz, but what I always go back to is down and dirty rhythm and blues, it has stayed with me all these years and now is the time to explore and share my views and feelings for this. I have been fascinated with the 60s garage scene ever since I heard the Standells "Good Guys Don't Wear White", so many great bands that released a couple of tracks and disappeared of the face of the earth, brilliant!! This wee blog will chart my progress as I add to my collection of vinyl, cds etc. Anyway I hope you enjoy it, I know I will!!!
